Sleep to resist sweets
Don’t worry—pilfering your kid’s candy doesn’t mean you’re a bad mom (or a kleptomaniac). It could just mean you’re not getting enough shut-eye, a recent University of Chicago study found. Sleep-deprived people experience increased levels of certain brain chemicals that enhance the joy of eating junk food; it’s the same thing that happens to people who smoke marijuana. “Temptation is really tough, so you’re better off getting to bed earlier,” says study author Erin Hanlon PH.D. This way, when you spot a bag of candy, it’ll be easier to just say no.
