Beauty Finds Tropical Tips
Wear the sunny season on your nails with these long-wearing polish picks.
MAKE YOUR MANI LAST
Prep to perfection. Don’t just file the edges of your nails; smoothen the surface, too, using a nail buffer or shining block. This gives you a smooth canvas, allowing for a more even distribution of product on your nail bed.
Pick your polish wisely. No-lamp, at-home gel variants like Solique Gel Polish and Sally Hansen Miracle Gel are fast becoming the preferred options for obvious reasons: They last longer than regular polish (you can stay chip-free for up to 14 days) and you can apply them on yourself, sans the fancy salon equipment. For best results, use these formulas with the recommended base and gel top coats.
Do it right. Create the perfect finish by painting three thin coats of polish instead of trying to get as much coverage in one go. Wait a minute before applying your next layer to avoid smudges and bumps. “To prevent chipping, you can lock the edges of your nails by applying polish onto them as you brush on your final coat,” says Imie Grace Lasap, technical trainer for in-salon gel brand Gelish.
