An exciting future – the rise of the fourth platform
IDC thinks that by 2020, one-third of health and life sciences and consumer product companies will begin to develop the first wave of products and services that will integrate with third platform technologies. IDC calls it augmented humanity which will become mainstream in the mid-2020s. Augmented humanity is defined as the use of technology to replace and aid human capabilities in a way that joins the person and technology as one. Augmented humanity or the fourth platform will be a closer step toward the penetration of the human body with the use of disruptive digital technologies. It is important to note that the fourth platform will not obsolete third platform technologies. The third platform technologies will stay as these will help in our progress toward fourth platform technologies that will offer solutions such as augmented immunity, augmented cognition, augmented biostructure, augmented sensing, and augmented mobility. In our time, we will see the human race will be reborn.
Robotics is one example of a technology that can replace and aid human capabilities.
