busy as a bee, fast as a hummingbird

Asia’s leading on demand intracity delivery technology enters Manila.

What is Lalamove?

Established in Hong Kong in 2013, Lalamove is the leading on demand intracity delivery technology in Asia, catering to 24 cities in China and five other cities in Asia, including Manila here in the Philippines. Lalamove will continue to aggressively expand in Asia, where it plans to launch in an additional 60 cities by the end of 2017. It already maintains the largest service area in Asia for intracity delivery, where its app connects users with more than 500,000 delivery drivers.

Our goal is to create a world where people prefer the efficiency and quality of our delivery network over building a fleet on their own of vehicles and drivers. We connect the best motorcycle and van drivers to customers all over the metro and deliver in as little as 55 minutes.

What logistics issues is Lalamove trying to address here in the Philippines?

Logistics is a big market and it is underpenetrated by the international technology movement. It is a USD 1.7-trillion market in China, whereas it accounts for up to 27% of GDP for some countries in Southeast Asia. We are looking to address the issues of reliability, convenience, and affordability by leveraging the efficiency of the Lalamove platform. We want to enable companies of all shapes and sizes to grow locally without having the pains of managing their own fleets or coughing up outrageous prices to contract logistic providers through agencies, all while conveniently monitoring everything through the Internet.

How does Lalamove compare to other logistics on-demand services that are available in the market these days?

Lalamove is a proven leader in this space all over Southeast Asia because of our intense focus. We built the platform and service with business user’s needs in mind. You can customize your Lalamove delivery service depending on your delivery needs, from small cupcakes to large bulky furnitures, from commissary supplier deliveries to documents delivery, we can do it for you, all at an affordable per kilometer charge.

Recently, we revamped the design of our app. Apart from adopting a logo inspired by the swiftness of the hummingbird, the app now allows for a faster and more seamless customer experience, starting from the point an order is placed up to its completion.

Do you have existing partnerships with local companies and establishments at the moment?

We work with a lot of local and international players for their local delivery needs in Manila. We provide currently for some of the top local restaurants and fastfood chains, food delivery services, meal plan delivery services, and mall suppliers. I cannot name anything specific (yet) but we also have some fastfood partners internationally that will be partnering with Lalamove in the near future. It is our firm belief that localization is the key to growth in all markets, and partnering with SMES (small and medium enterprises) and large players is our proof of concept that Lalamove can change the industry of deliveries both in Manila and other key cities abroad.

What are some of the challenges that Lalamove is facing right now or anticipating in the near future?

We are facing quite the problem in getting drivers into the platform as fast as possible. Our business is growing very fast and our customer base is growing faster than our capacity. In addition, as with any new lucrative business, we are facing a lot of competition in our space, both from new players and old. We are happy to have these problems in the market since it means that the local landscape is ready to embrace this kind of convenient and reliable service, and we are confident that our focus on service will win the market.

“We want to create a world where people prefer the efficiency and quality of our delivery network over building a fleet on their own of vehicles and drivers.” Albert Go, Country Director, Lalamove
