Altec lansing Geemel
Bluetooth speakers have always been a good idea to pop a party wherever you are. It became a norm for us to bring these portable speakers and connect our smartphones with them easily. A known brand of speaker systems, Altec Lansing introduced in 2017 the Geemel, a Bluetooth audio device which consists of two mini speakers.
The Geemel is a very handy speaker that will not cause any much weight on your bag. Each speaker has a rounded body with a matte-finished back and an aluminum grille surface with a logo on the bottom part.
The Bluetooth activation and battery level indicators appear in the form of blue or red light inside the grille surface of the speaker.
The Geemel is compliant with Bluetooth 4.1 standard. When we tried pairing the Geemel with a smartphone, we had a hard time making the two speakers work as one. To make the speaker set connect, we held the MF button until the speaker said “Power On”. Next, we held the MF button for five more seconds until it produced a beep sound, an indication that Bluetooth connectivity is active. On the smartphone, select “Geemel” and the speaker should say “pairing”. The Geemel should say “pairing Successful” once the Bluetooth connectivity is established.
The Geemel allowed us to enjoy listening to our music playlist and even receive phone calls. With almost a week of using the Geemel, it did not disappoint us in terms of audio quality. Taking into account the small size of the Geemel, its scope is enough to occupy a small room.
The Geemel speaker set produced satisfying audio quality across different genres, from acoustic to pop music, it managed to play songs well. Pushing its volume to the maximum level, the Geemel did not give any distorted sound. Do note that you can only control the volume from the sound source, which could be a smartphone or a tablet.
Inside, each Geemel speaker comes with a 500mah lithium polymer battery. Running a battery test by fully charging the speaker set and draining it by playing continuous music, the Geemel managed to last up to five hours and three minutes. Recharging the Geemel took up to three hours by using the micro-usb port and the connector bundled with it.
While a dual speaker Bluetooth setup is not a bad idea, it might have some disadvantages just like what is mentioned in this review. Nevertheless, the Geemel stayed true to what Altec Lansing’s main purpose of creating speakers, and that is to produce good audio.
