School superintendent for Iloilo suspended for nepotism
ILOILO CITY — The Department of Education (DepEd) has suspended the highest-ranking school superintendent in Iloilo province for nepotism.
Dr. Myrna Salmo Castillo, DepEd-Division of Iloilo superintendent, is under a 90-day preventive suspension pending formal investigation.
The charge and the suspension order was signed by DepEd Undersecretary Alberto Muyot and approved by DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones last December 13. The order was only made public last January 11.
Castillo is charged for appointing his nephew, Arman Glenn Lapor, as education program specialist.
The DepEd order charged Castillo for violating Section 2(2) of the 1987 Philippine Constitution. She also violated DepEd Order No. 2006-49 and Section 46No.11 of the Revised Rules on Administrative Cases of the Civil Service. (Tara Yap)
