School su­per­in­ten­dent for Iloilo sus­pended for nepo­tism

ILOILO CITY — The Depart­ment of Ed­u­ca­tion (DepEd) has sus­pended the high­est-rank­ing school su­per­in­ten­dent in Iloilo prov­ince for nepo­tism.

Dr. Myrna Salmo Castillo, DepEd-Divi­sion of Iloilo su­per­in­ten­dent, is un­der a 90-day pre­ven­tive sus­pen­sion pend­ing for­mal in­ves­ti­ga­tion.

The charge and the sus­pen­sion or­der was signed by DepEd Un­der­sec­re­tary Al­berto Muyot and ap­proved by DepEd Sec­re­tary Leonor Bri­ones last De­cem­ber 13. The or­der was only made public last Jan­uary 11.

Castillo is charged for ap­point­ing his nephew, Ar­man Glenn La­por, as ed­u­ca­tion pro­gram spe­cial­ist.

The DepEd or­der charged Castillo for vi­o­lat­ing Sec­tion 2(2) of the 1987 Philip­pine Con­sti­tu­tion. She also vi­o­lated DepEd Or­der No. 2006-49 and Sec­tion 46No.11 of the Re­vised Rules on Ad­min­is­tra­tive Cases of the Civil Ser­vice. (Tara Yap)
