Labor force survey in Eastern Visayas
TACLOBAN CITY – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) regional office in Eastern Visayas launched this week a Labor Force Survey.
Wilma A. Perante, PSA regional director, said the survey will be the first to use digital tablets instead of the usual pen-and-paper.
Perante told reporters 2,718 households in the region were systematically and randomly selected as respondents.
The households will be visited by PSA personnel and statistical researchers who will be doing interviews using tablets guided by Computer Aided Data Collection System (CADaCS).
“This is the agency’s step to digitization in order to speed up data collection and data processing,” Perante said.
The Labor Force Survey is a quarterly nationwide poll of households which aims to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population. “It also aims to provide a quantitative framework for the preparation of plans and formulation of policies affecting the labor market,” Perante said.
The survey serves as a tool in measuring the distribution of household population 15 years old and over by status – employed, unemployed or underemployed.
Perante said it is used to determine various employment and basis of payment.
Household member will also be asked if they have experienced hunger. (Restituto A. Cayubit)
