Meralco rates down R0.2703/kwh this month
Rates for residential customers of Manila Electric Company (Meralco) will be down by R0.2703 per kilowatt hour (kwh) in this billing month or a total of R54 for those with base consumption of 200 kilowatt hours. Meralco’s total billing rate this month is at R8.09 per kwh, the lowest recorded so far since October 2009 and lower by R0.31 per kwh compared to the same month last year at R8.40 per kwh. The utility firm said this month’s rate reduction “is mainly due to the downward movement in the generation charge.” Additionally, taxes and other charges had been lower by R0.0394 per kwh for this billing cycle; generally offsetting an increase of R0.0042 per kwh in transmission charges due to ancillary services. For supply procurement from the independent power producers (IPPs), there was minimal reduction of R0.0005 per kwh due to improved dispatch of its contracted First Gas and Quezon Power plants. Charges from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) had lean upward adjustment of R0.0267 per kwh to R2.5665 per kwh from R2.5398 per kwh. In December supply month, Meralco’s procurement from the electricity spot market had been down to 21.8-percent from a higher base of 22.5-percent in November supply month.
