CEBU CITY – Mobile phone service will be disrupted in Cebu City Saturday and Sunday as cellular sites will be shut down as part of the security measures for the Sinulog festival and the Fiesta Señor.
The National Telecommunications Commission approved the shutting down of cellsites along the routes of the procession, fluvial procession, and Sinulog Grand Parade, during a meeting with city and police officials.
NTC Commissioner Gamaliel A. Cordoba said network services will be cut-off during the following activities of the festival in Mandaue, Mactan and Cebu City:
• January 14 (Saturday): 3 a.m. to 10 a.m. in Mandaue City and Mactan, Lapulapu City; 12 noon to 8 p.m. in Cebu City
• January 15 (Sunday): 3 a.m. to 7 p.m. in uptown and downtown Cebu City.

The regional police had requested the NTC to shut down of mobile phone service to prevent cellphones from being used to detonate explosives.
