Mild quakes hit Siar­gao

BUTUAN CITY – Two mild earth­quakes shook the Pa­cific Ocean-fac­ing is­land of Siar­gao on Fri­day, the Philip­pine In­sti­tute of Vol­canol­ogy and Seis­mol­ogy (Phivolcs) said. In its bul­letin, Phivolcs said the first 3.5 mag­ni­tude earth­quake was recorded at 3:39 a.m. with its epi­cen­ter plot­ted 40 kilo­me­ters (kms) north­east of Gen­eral Luna town, Siar­gao Is­land, Suri­gao del Norte province, and with only a depth of 7 kms. The sec­ond was a 3.4-mag­ni­tude tremor at 4:14 a.m.. The epi­cen­ter was traced 31 kms north­east of the same town, with a depth of 17 kms, Phivolcs said. (Mike U. Crismundo)
