ILOILO CITY– The Department of Tourism (DOT) is pushing for more educational trips in Western Visayas region.

“Field trips and educational tours play an important part in teaching students. It exposes them to the actual happenings outside the four walls of the classroom. It broadens their learning opportunities beyond concepts and theories,” said DOT-Western Visayas regional director Helen Catalbas.

“Aside from that, field trips also let students experience and visit the different destinations of Western Visayas and help promote these destinations,” Catalbas added during the Regional Educational Tour Summit (RETS) in Iloilo City.

Tourism industry players and representatives of educational institutions from Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental signed the Pledge of Commitment for Quality Field Trips.

The summit likewise sought to strengthen coordination between government agencies, local governments, the academe, travel agencies, tour agencies, and transportation industry.
