7 killed in hol­i­day road ac­ci­dents

Po­lice and land trans­port au­thor­i­ties are call­ing on mo­torists and trav­el­ers tak­ing to the long roads stretch­ing to the prov­inces this hol­i­day week to take ex­tra care as the num­ber of peo­ple killed in traf­fic ac­ci­dents since Sun­day went up to seven.

In Nueva Viz­caya, the Land Trans­porta­tion Of­fice (LTO) re­ported a col­li­sion be­tween a truck and mo­tor­cy­cle along Ma­har­lika High­way, Bon­fal Proper, Bay­ombong town that re­sulted in the death of two peo­ple.

The Po­lice Provin­cial Of­fice (PPO) iden­ti­fied the fa­tal­i­ties as Van P. Di­clas, 22, sin­gle, the mo­tor­cy­cle driver, and Ar­lyn Uyaan, 22, a Nueva Viz­caya State Univer­sity stu­dent.

LTO of­fi­cers were watch­ing the road when Di­clas avoided them and came into the path of the Hino truck (WGQ-503) drivern by one Randy A. Bayas, 47.

In La Union, a car went out of con­trol and crashed into a con­crete fence and then a gmelina tree on the road­side in Barangay Ris­ing, Ban­gar town at 8:45 p.m. Mon­day.

Chief In­spec­tor Sil­ve­rio Or­di­nado Jr., La Union po­lice in­for­ma­tion of­fi­cer, said three of the five peo­ple aboard the Honda City (DU-6719) were killed – Mark Paul Paua, the driver; and his two pas­sen­gers Scotch Paua, and Jalle Bachel­lar, all of le­gal agea and res­i­dents of Legazpi City, Al­bay.

Mem­bers of the La Union Res­cue had a dif­fi­cult time ex­tract­ing the vic­tims from the crum­pled car but suc­cess­fully res­cued Arvin G. Vic­to­ria, 30, a seaman and res­i­dent of Das­mar­iñas City, Cavite, and Maricar A. Ca­bales, 23, stu­dent from Que­zon City, alive. Both were taken to the hos­pi­tal due to se­ri­ous in­juries.

Mean­while in Cavite, Je­son De Leon Ma­catig­bak, 23, and Den­cel Ro­ces, both res­i­dents of Rosario, died in af­ter the mo­tor­cy­cle they were rid­ing ram­ming into an on­com­ing dump truck on Ba­cao Road in Gen­eral Trias City last Sun­day.

Traf­fic in­ves­ti­ga­tors said their Suzuki mo­tor­cy­cle (9055 NC) skid­ded along the road and col­lided head-on with the truck driven by Den­nis Valderama Sta. Maria, 33. The vic­tims and their mo­tor­bike were run over by the truck.

Down south in Virac, Catan­d­u­anes, blood splat­tered on the na­tional road in Barangay Cal­ab­ni­gan Mon­day night when an over­loaded tri­cy­cle col­lided with a mo­tor­cy­cle.

Nine peo­ple were se­ri­ously in­jured in the ac­ci­dent that hap­pened while the tri­cy­cle driven by Alex Ba­cay Abejo tried to over­take a con­tainer van and came head-on with the mo­tor­cy­cle driven by Loreto S. Sales.

Abejo’s wife, Mary Anne, was de­clared in crit­i­cal con­di­tion and re­mained con­fined at the hos­pi­tal.

Mean­while, the deadly col­li­sion be­tween a truck and two tri­cy­cles in Tanauan City, Batan­gas last Thurs­day which re­sulted in the death of four peo­ple claimed two more lives.

Ju­ve­line Kaye Castillo, 27, and Lalaine Gabriel, 49, suc­cumbed to their in­juries while con­fined at the CP Reyes Hos­pi­tal in Tanauan, said Su­per­in­ten­dent Re­nato Mer­cado.

The col­li­sion ear­lier claimed the lives of trike driver Ray­mond Lle­nado, 27; SPO3 Mar­que­ses Valentino; Mar­bel Itoralde, 22; and Nanette Aton, 37. (With re­ports from Jinky Ta­bor and Lyka Manalo)
