away with the title of Athlete of the Year.

But Guzman is not just an outstanding athlete. He also excels - ished high school with honors.

But life has not always been easy for our MVP. In his senior year at USJR, his father died because of a complication arising from a spina’ problem. But trust Guzman to be not just an MVP inside the court, but also in real life. He has proven that every setback should not be an excuse to stop achieving your goals. He accepted the fate that befell his family, and he moved on.

UST has always been Guzman’s dream school. He got the chance to play for the university when Coach Emiliano Lontoc, the former UST volleyball head coach, recruited him during the Palarong Pambansa in Dumaguete in 2013. He got a volleyball scholarship, which helped mother, while making him study as well at this dream school. His persevering mother serves as his inspiration in achieving his goals in life.

He is currently holding a Santo Domingo de Guzman Scholarship for the Gifted, which is given to students who excel in the arts, music and sports. Guzman has broken the stereotypes of the student- athletes as dim- witted. He has managed to remain as a regular student until now in his fourth year at the Faculty of Engineering.

For him, the life of a student- Kris Roy Guzman, the pride of Cebu and now a golden Tomasino athlete is a serious matter. He knows that time management is very important for an athlete to keep a good balance between academics and sports. “I set priorities and goals because I want to reach my dreams,” Guzman stressed. “My main priority is - ing [ while doing] my an athlete.”

As all students know, life in a university is not easy, with tons of deadlines, papers, projects, and whatnot. Hence, the need to manage one’s time. Kris Roy Guzman is a good example of how student-athletes work around the best as clock just to excel in both worlds.

Guzman left an advice for his fellow students who aspire to pursue their passion amid the demands of academic life, “Nothing comes easy. Things that are achieved in the hardest way are the sweetest,” Guzman emphasized, “and always pray.”
