Gigantes Island now fully energized
RESIDENTS of Gigantes Island can now enjoy power supply 24 hours a day, seven days a week as state- controlled National Power Corp. ( Napocor) switched on a new 300-kilowatt (kW) generating set (genset).
Napocor said in a statement on Monday that the new 300kW genset brings the total dependable capacity to 796kW and the net reserve at 421kW.
With huge reserve capacities, it added, additional household connections and a higher power demand can be expected.
Prior to the energization of the island, the firm’s Gigantes Diese sel Power Plant ( DPP) supplied el electricity for only 16 hours and h had a dependable capacity of 5 530kW, enough to meet peak d demand of 375kW.
Gigantes DPP, located in Gigantes North, also serves Gigantes Sur through a 1.7-kilometer submarine cable.
These are the biggest islands of Gigantes.

The island is most widely known for scallops, shrimps and crabs and unique rock formations and pristine beaches.
Also called “Islas de Gigantes,” it is located off the coast of Estancia and Carles in northern Iloilo.

The Napocor provides generation and associated power delivery systems in missionary areas or islands and communities that are connected to the main transmission grid.
The state-controlled corporation now operates 275 power facilities in 190 municipalities across 34 provinces in the archipelago.
Recently, Napocor provided 24/ 7 power supply to the islands of Capul in Northern Samar, Maripipi in Biliran, Balicasag and Pamilacan in Bohol and Doong in Cebu.
