Somebody I used to know

- UNIVERSITY OF THE EAST - CALOOCAN ALEXANDER B. RUPETA JR.

To the girl I used to know, it breaks my heart to see you lost.

You are lost in a sea of expectations. You used to sail these waters with your head up high. Now you’re drowning And no matter how hard you swim, you sink deeper

I want to bring you back to shallow waters Where you used to watch the storm I try to reach for you but the waves have taken you down

With them

You are lost in a stampede of people you cherish

You strive to give them your all but it leaves you with nothing left for yourself You do not expect anything in return And you do not ask for help -- because you are scared of being trampled

I want to hold your hand through all the chaos

I try to call out your name but everyone else drowns me out

You are lost in the darkness of your

own mind

You have become your own worst enemy

The monsters hiding in the dark are telling you to stop, to sleep with them forever Their voices echo in your ears— beckoning you to follow their steps

I want to tell you to close your fragile mind

I whisper comfort into your ears but your demons are louder “Don’t listen to them," I say But they’ve taken over you

To the girl I used to know, It breaks my heart to see you lost But it breaks my heart more to know that I have lost you

I used to know you so well—what made you laugh, what made your heart

Now I see you in tears you’ve never shed before

You were once free You were once full of hope You were once someone I knew But you aren’t the same person I used to see staring back at me
