Pagcor warns public vs illegal gambling on FB

- JIM PILAPIL

THE Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) has warned the public against persons and groups who have been organizing illegal Bingo games using Facebook.

Pagcor urged the public not to patronize such schemes because they could fall prey to identity theft and credit card fraud.

It said betting on such illegal gambling activities is also a crime.

According to Pagcor, it is illegal for any person or organization without a license to directly or indirectly take part in any unauthorized gambling activities, including online, internet or remote gambling.

“Bingo” is a popular online gambling kiosk operating mostly in cities and catering to Filipinos. A private company runs it under the auspices of Pagcor.

In a letter, Pagcor, through its chief legal counsel Roderick Consolacion, warned Facebook Philippines against being used by persons organizing the illegal bingo games and internet/ online gambling.

Consolacion asked Facebook Philippines to “act immediately against such activities to avoid the perception that your company is aiding and abetting the same.”
