Global Covid deaths hit 1.1M
NEW YORK: Global Covid-19 deaths surpassed 1.1 million on Friday (Saturday in Manila), according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.
The global death toll rose to 1,100,364, while there were more than 39 million cases worldwide as of 12:24 p.m. Friday (12:24 a.m. in Manila, Saturday), the CSSE data showed.
The United States remains the worsthit nation, with over 8 million cases and 217,987 deaths.
Brazil recorded 152,460 deaths, second only to the US death toll. India has the world’s third largest death toll of 112,161 and the second largest caseload of more than 7.3 million.
Countries with over 33,000 fatalities also include Mexico, Britain, Italy, Spain, Peru and France.
