Global Covid deaths hit 1.1M

NEW YORK: Global Covid-19 deaths sur­passed 1.1 mil­lion on Fri­day (Satur­day in Manila), ac­cord­ing to the Cen­ter for Sys­tems Science and Engi­neer­ing (CSSE) at Johns Hop­kins Univer­sity.

The global death toll rose to 1,100,364, while there were more than 39 mil­lion cases world­wide as of 12:24 p.m. Fri­day (12:24 a.m. in Manila, Satur­day), the CSSE data showed.

The United States re­mains the worsthit na­tion, with over 8 mil­lion cases and 217,987 deaths.

Brazil recorded 152,460 deaths, sec­ond only to the US death toll. In­dia has the world’s third largest death toll of 112,161 and the sec­ond largest caseload of more than 7.3 mil­lion.

Coun­tries with over 33,000 fa­tal­i­ties also in­clude Mex­ico, Bri­tain, Italy, Spain, Peru and France.
