Breathe New Life Into Your Home
Each new year equates to fresh starts. And what better way than to spruce up your home? Isabel Villar, creative director of Edition Lifestyle Shop, gives us more than a few ideas
COLOR: Orchid Pink Orchid Pink has been declared as Pantone's Color of the Year. “I think Orchid Pink is such a lovely color to play with and will definitely uplift the atmosphere for the upcoming year. Keeping up with this trend, you can go bold and paint some walls Orchid Pink, or buy new pink decorative pieces like throw pillows or framed prints.”
DIY, Bespoke, Crafts
Isa says that in terms of interior design, clients want to be more involved in the designing process. “They also prefer decor items that have personal touches. This is partly why we decided to name our brand EDITION. We encourage our clients to design their own pieces and label their works.
Don't be afraid to design your place. Consider refurbishing and redesigning your old furniture. Sometimes adding stainless steel to old wooden furniture makes the piece instantly modern. A lot of people are really into crafts nowadays. Take some classes to make your own candles, silk screens, or terrariums and display your own creations at your place. CRAFT MNL offers a lot of interesting classes, we also teach some of our clients how to make their own Terrariums as per request.”
African and Wildlife Influence
“Decorative pieces that are safari-themed instantly add exotic elegance.” Isa explains that this is why you may find more and more animal print fabrics or decor pieces using animal skin or designs in shops. “There are many simple ways to keep in line with this trend without overwhelming your place. Some animal figurines in unexpected areas add an element of surprise.”
“As climate change continues to be a global concern, going natural and adding vegetation in every possible way to your home is not only a positive change in lifestyle but is actually visually pleasing as well.” That is why, Isa says, eco design is a favorite trend for 2014. “At first, some people were a bit hesitant to add green to their homes because of maintenance, but there are constantly new and innovative products that are easy to take care of such as air plants, cacti, and terrariums. We love recommending green roofs and wall gardens to our clients. My partner Mark San Diego teaches clients how to make terrariums, and many have let us customize terrarium glass cases for them.
