Miss­ing fish­er­man res­cued in West Philip­pine Sea

A Batangueño fish­er­man who has been miss­ing in the West Philip­pine Sea since Septem­ber 12 has been res­cued by per­son­nel of the Naval Forces West (NFW) and the Philip­pine Coast Guard (PCG) on Mon­day. Capt. Cher­ryl Tin­dog, spokesper­son of the West­ern Com­mand (WESCOM), said in a state­ment that Freddy Abat, 29, was res­cued around 8 a.m. in the vicin­ity of Cape Melville, West Philip­pine Sea. Tin­dog said Abat was spot­ted wav­ing his hand by the crew of fish­ing boat “Glen­mar B” around 34 nau­ti­cal miles off Cape Melville. The boat cap­tain ma­neu­vered to­wards Abat’s boat, gave him as­sis­tance, and called author­i­ties to re­port that he has been found. Abat is now on­board the PCG’s MRRV 4407, which con­ducted the search and res­cue op­er­a­tions on its way to Puerto Princesa City ex­pected to ar­rive at around 6 p.m.
