San Vicente needs more cops
With its burgeoning tourist industry, the town of San Vicente said it needs additional police personnel the to ensure the security of visitors.
Lucylyn Panagsagan, the town’s tourism officer, said in an “Usapang Turismo” forum held on Tuesday, September 25, that they need more security professionals because they are part of San Vicente’s image and values.
San Vicente is generally peaceful but any incident may affect its image as a tourist destination.
“Peaceful naman sa San Vicente but, of course, we are going to tourism development plus the fact na may airport tayong [bago at marami pang turista na] parating, ang impact n’yan is increase ng ating tourist arrivals. Tanong nila, kaya ba natin na mapanatili ‘yong orderliness na meron tayo sa San Vicente?” Panagsagan said.
She said they were informed by the Palawan Provincial Police Office (PPO) in a forum about its plan to put an additional tourist police station at Long Beach aside from the other post in Port Barton.
Port Barton, she said, has 10 assigned police personnel to man its popular beach and island getaways that are frequented by tourists.
Meanwhile, municipal administrative officer James Inawasan said the construction of a station for the PNP Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB) is ongoing at the San Vicente Airport for its 50 police personnel.
“Nag-augment tayo para RPSB na more or less 50 silang personnel so diyan sila sa tabi talaga mismo ng airport. Isang objective is ma-proteksyonan ang airport natin dahil vital installation ang airport natin tapos triangle yan sila ng PNP and Philippine Marines,” Inawasan said.
The 2nd tourism forum is in line with the celebration of the “Tourism Month” with the theme “Tourism and Digitalization” was participated by academe and law enforcement agencies held at the Palawan State University Multipurpose Hall from September 24 to 27.
