Ceres vs Malaysia in AFC zonal semis in Bacolod

n Foot­ball Club is in a must-win sit­u­a­tion when it faces Jo­hor Darul Tazim of Malaysia in the sec­ond leg of the 2017 AFC Cup zonal semi­fi­nals tonight at the Panaad Park and Sta­dium in Bacolod City. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

The Ne­gros Oc­ci­den­tal- based team needs only a 1-0 or 2-1 vic­tory to move on to the next round af­ter scor­ing two away goals in the first leg in Malaysia.

Ceres-Neg rosstar Bien­venido Marañon, one of the goal scor­ers in their 3- 2 de­feat in the first leg, said they are op­ti­mistic of their chances head­ing into the cru­cial game against the Jo­hor Darul Tazim.

“I think we did a good job in the first leg,” Marañon said. “I think also we de­serve a lit­tle more for the chances we cre­ated. We are so happy of this re­sult be­cause maybe the semi­fi­nal is open. In Bacolod, we can win for sure.”

rt added. “We have to win. They have to de­fend the re­sult, and I think we can for sure do very good in Ba col odin front of our sup­port­ers.”

Aside f rom Marañon, also ban­ner­ing the Ceres Ne­gros crew are Spa­niards Manuel Her­rera and Fer­nando Ro­driguez, and Michael Casas, Iain Ram­say, Jose Elmer Por­te­ria, and Manuel Ott.

“In foot­ball ev­ery­thing is pos­si­ble so you never know. Maybe when you ex­pect a win, you draw. Maybe when you ex­pect a draw, you lose. So you never know what’s gonna hap­pen in foot­ball,” said Ceres Ne­gros men­tor Risto Vi­dakovic.

Ceres Ne­gros will be aim­ing to be­come the first Philip­pine-based team to move past t he zonal semi­fi­nals round. Aside from Ceres Ne­gros, another Philip­pine team, Global Foot­ball Club, is try­ing to achieve the same feat./
