Ceres vs Malaysia in AFC zonal semis in Bacolod
MANILA – Ceres Negros
n Football Club is in a must-win situation when it faces Johor Darul Tazim of Malaysia in the second leg of the 2017 AFC Cup zonal semifinals tonight at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
The Negros Occidental- based team needs only a 1-0 or 2-1 victory to move on to the next round after scoring two away goals in the first leg in Malaysia.
Ceres-Neg rosstar Bienvenido Marañon, one of the goal scorers in their 3- 2 defeat in the first leg, said they are optimistic of their chances heading into the crucial game against the Johor Darul Tazim.
“I think we did a good job in the first leg,” Marañon said. “I think also we deserve a little more for the chances we created. We are so happy of this result because maybe the semifinal is open. In Bacolod, we can win for sure.”
“It will be really good game,” the Spanish striker
rt added. “We have to win. They have to defend the result, and I think we can for sure do very good in Ba col odin front of our supporters.”
Aside f rom Marañon, also bannering the Ceres Negros crew are Spaniards Manuel Herrera and Fernando Rodriguez, and Michael Casas, Iain Ramsay, Jose Elmer Porteria, and Manuel Ott.
“In football everything is possible so you never know. Maybe when you expect a win, you draw. Maybe when you expect a draw, you lose. So you never know what’s gonna happen in football,” said Ceres Negros mentor Risto Vidakovic.
Ceres Negros will be aiming to become the first Philippine-based team to move past t he zonal semifinals round. Aside from Ceres Negros, another Philippine team, Global Football Club, is trying to achieve the same feat./
