Ceres routs Ilo­cos in home court

BA­COLOD City – Ceres Neg ros dumped Ilo cos United  5-0 in their Philip­pines Foot­ball League match on Satur­day night at the Panaad Park and Sta­dium.

The vic­tory pushed Ceres to third place with 35 points – just 9 points be­hind league leader Mer­alco Manila.

Four bus­men landed on the score sheet, with Stephan Schrock get­ting a brace, as the Ne­gros Oc­ci­den­tal- based squad com­pleted its mas­tery of Ilo­cos at their home court.

Schrock fired two goals while Bien­venido Marañon, Fer­nando Ro­driguez and Carli de Murga added a con­ver­sion each for Ceres.

Marañon fired to the far post af­ter catch­ing a loose ball in the box in the fifth minute for 1-0.

Ro­driguez dou­bled the lead 2-0 in the 19th minute when he volleyed in a de­flected ball in front of goal.

De Murga scored just be­fore the hour mark when a header off a cor­ner beat Ilo­cos United goal­keeper Baba Sam­pana. The lead went up to 4-0 at the half with Schrock’s deep cross con­ver­sion.

Ilo­cos United tight­ened its de­fense in the sec­ond half and had a good chance from Chima Uzoka in the 56th but his shot was de­flected.

In the 73rd minute, Ceres widened the lead fur­ther af­ter Schrock’s well-timed run from Marañon’s de­liv­ery re­sulted to the Filipino round­ing the Ilo­cos United goal­keeper for their fifth goal.

“For me the most im­por­tant was the team played ex­cel­lent,” said Ceres men­tor Risto Vi­dakovic. “And I can say that we have style, we have the pos­ses­sion and, for me, that’s more i mpor­tant than the points.”
