Du30 tells cops: Stop Kadamay

-

MANILA – President

n rt Rodrigo Duterte ordered the Philippine National Police to prevent the urban poor group Kadamay from occupying government housing projects for police officers and soldiers.

Duterte gave the task during a joint command conference Wednesday night, Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque told a press briefing in Malacañang Thursday.

“In the past the President allowed Kadamay to occupy government housing projects intended for soldiers in Pandi,” a town in Bulacan province, Roque said. “But if you will recall, the President said that would be the first and the last.”

On Wednesday around 500 members of Kadamay, mostly female, attempted to occupy idle housing units in Rodriguez, Rizal but the police thwarted them.

“Given this latest attempt, the President has given directives to the police that Kadamay should not be allowed to take over these housing units,” said Roque.

Kadamay also made such attempts to take over idle houses in Pandi, Bulacan, and in Rodriguez, Rizal last year.

In addition, Duterte called on the National Housing Authority to explain why the Rizal housing project remains idle.

The President wants to know “when they (NHA) intend to give these housing units to the intended beneficiaries,” Roque said.

The NHA denied Kadamay’s claim that the housing units the group tried to overrun in Rodriguez, Rizal were idle. It said these have already been awarded to police officers./
