Francis Kian Zuniega was 4 years old and in the Top 10 of his nursery class in daycare school when he was diagnosed in August 2016 with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

“He is a bit mature for his age. He knows what ails him. He did not complain at all,” Francis’ mother, Hazel, told the Inquirer.

Now aged 5, Francis has since stopped going to school because of his condition. Doctors at Philippine General Hospital have recommended that he undergo 30 sessions of chemotherapy once a month. Each session costs P39,000.

“He has been asking me when he will be going back to school. I keep asking myself why this is happening to our family. I am fully aware that my son may die if he does not get the treatment he needs,” Hazel said.

“I hope you can help us. That’s two-and-a-half years of chemotherapy and my husband, Nixon, earns only P400 a day as a construction worker. The cost of treatment is really beyond our means. I will be forever grateful to you,” Hazel said.
