Unicef: 60 Ro­hingya ba­bies born per day in shel­ters

At least 60 ba­bies a day are be­ing born in refugee camps in Bangladesh that shel­ter hun­dreds of thou­sands of Ro­hingya Mus­lims who had fled Myan­mar, the United Na­tions Chil­dren’s Emer­gency Fund (Unicef) said on Wed­nes­day. Nearly 700,000 Ro­hingya fled to Cox’s Bazaar in Bangladesh in the last nine months after a Myan­marmil­i­tary crack­down that the United Na­tions, United States and Bri­tain had de­nounced as eth­nic cleans­ing. Unicef, in a state­ment, said that since the cri­sis be­gan, more than 16,000 ba­bies had been born in the camps. UNSe­cu­rity Coun­cil en­voys vis­ited the refugee camps in April.—
