The num­ber of job­less adult Filipinos reached 9.8 mil­lion in the third quar­ter of 2018, ac­cord­ing to the results of a So­cial Weather Sta­tions ( SWS) sur­vey re­leased on Satur­day.

The sur­vey con­ducted from Sept. 15 to 23 showed that adult job­less­ness was at 22 per­cent, or 2.3 points higher than the 19.7 per­cent recorded in June.

Of the to­tal num­ber of job­less adults, 9.2 per­cent (4.1 mil­lion) were re­trenched, 8.4 per­cent (3.7 mil­lion) vol­un­tar­ily left their jobs, and 4.4 per­cent (2 mil­lion) were first-time job seek­ers.

The sur­vey in­volved in­ter­views with 1,500 adults aged 18 years and above. Six hun­dred of the re­spon­dents were in Bal­ance Luzon, with 300 each in Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao.

It had a mar­gin of er­ror of plus-or-mi­nus 3 per­cent for na­tional per­cent­ages, plus-or-mi­nus 4 per­cent for Bal­ance Luzon, and plus-or-mi­nus 6 per­cent each for Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao.
