The Tatler Dining Guide Philippines
Château 1771
WHY GO
This French bistro conveniently offers European cuisine in a busy mall complex with service and a menu selection worthy of a five-star hotel. Its table setting and interiors exude an old world appeal, while its walls are strewn with paintings by the late Filipino master, Onib Olmedo, reflecting the owners’ borderless philosophy to its cuisine.
TATLER TIPS
The seafood soup is an excellent light yet hearty soup with generous chunks of fish, squid, clams, and scallops. The house speciality, potence, named after the metal gallow the grilled beef tenderloin is hung on, then flambéed table side with lambanog (coconut liqueur) for a flavourful finish. The five-hour French duck leg is an underrated gem of a dish, with its fall-off-the-bones savoury meat gently cooked for five hours with white beans, pancetta, and tomatoes.
