Head of Communications, Institute for Solidarity in Asia
The newness of a place allows us to be more ourselves—more open, curious, and willing to try out other ways of living. Away from the usual, we become more practical and so much better at problem-solving. We also let ourselves take on different perspectives, and put everything we know in the context of a foreign culture, and certainly, a much larger world. What I love about travel is that as it reveals the details of a place, something is added to the traveller—whether it’s a souvenir, a new way of dressing, or a new way of thinking.
