A TIMELESS TALE
Ballet Philippines ends this year with Edna Vida’s retelling of a Christmas classic,
which narrates the story of a young girl’s favourite toy coming to life. Various international ballet companies have mounted the production, but Vida’s version is made special to the Filipino audience due to its localised setting, as well as the costumes, designed by the late National Artist Salvador Bernal in 1987. It takes viewers back to the Spanish colonial era in the Philippines and makes use of familiar images of bougainvilleas, and the like. The show runs from 1 to 10 December at the CCP Main Theatre, Pasay City.
