That’s my answer to this month’s cover line. The exercise we enjoin you in this month is to think of what fashion means to you. Lest you think we’re trying to be deeply philosophical, we’ve simply tried to pin down how fashion figures into people’s lives. Isn’t that fitting for the September issue? Is it a tool to define your personal brand? Are they vestments that get you through life’s experiences? Or are they works that result from your creative drive? Whatever the case, one thing holds true: Fashion is at your disposal however you choose to use it. We’ve gathered stories that champion the roles it plays in the world today: how the industry’s power players suit up and stand out; how two young women have culled from experience to create some of the most striking minimalist pieces of jewelry we’ve seen of late; how a variety of beauty tricks have helped women amplify their style through the decades; and how it has paved the way toward uplifting, professional careers for the members of the Professional Models Association of the Philippines (PMAP), which is celebrating its 30th year. In the case of our cover girl, Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 5 winner Maureen Wroblewitz, fashion is a vehicle to learn and win. Watching her move and nail shot after shot at the cover shoot had us in disbelief that she has only been modeling for a few months. With her determination and quick wit, there’s no doubt this is the start of good things to come for the young model. I’ll end this note with one request: When you do figure out what to write on the blank space on our cover, keep us in the loop by tagging us on social media. We’d love to find out what fashion is for you.
