IT’S PRETTY OBVIOUS WHAT THE MAIN problem of the Yams’ small bedroom is: it was too cluttered, and was in dire need of storage space. Plus, there was little room for movement, especially considering that the space is shared by husband and wife Che and Aldwin with their twins David and Gwyneth. “Yung mga kids, they’re sleeping with us…queen-size kasi yung bed, pero pag usual way ka natulog,

masikip,” says Che. The four of them, therefore, sleep with their heads against the wall (instead of the headboard) in order for all of them to fit. Still, laments Che, it’s not that comfortable.

So how do you fix this cramped bedroom shared by four? Decorator Grace Moslares and her team at Magara Interiors immediately set out to provide the Yams with ample storage space. “The real problem is space kasi apat sila. Very limited yung space. With a standard bed,

wala ka nang pwedeng mailagay. Closet space din—wala silang storage,” Grace says. Hence, the team customized a cabinet by the door complete with adjustable shelves. Grace also had a tall, slim open shelf beside the bed—a perfect spot for books and small decorative items. Handyman generously provided the construction materials.

Che and Aldwin, who are taking up their master’s degree, were particular about having their own nook where they can work on their post-graduate requirements. “Usually, yung ginagamit namin yung kabayo pang plantsa [ironing board—Ed.] kasi wala nga kaming area,” recalls Che. Grace, then, had a ledge built below their mounted TV to serve as the couple’s study/work desk.

Decorator Grace Moslares and her team made sure to get furniture pieces that are space-saving, like this sofa bed from Avino Fine Living. “Yung ibang sofa bed, pag nilatag mo,

hanggang double size lang. At least dapat king or queen. Ito, semi-queen, konti na lang, king na,” Grace says of the bed she chose. When not in use, the bed easily converts into a comfortable couch, allowing more room for kids David and Gwyneth to play in. Aquamarine serves as a fresh accent color against the all-white space. (Paints are from Handyman.)
