My 10 FAVORITE THINGS: NIKKI VALENZUELA. This artist lets us into her Salty Studio and shares with us her favorite things.
Favorite Area in the House
“My elevated bed. It’s where I can most clearly see the ocean or watch the sunset.”
Favorite Home Scent
“I wanted something that smells like fresh coconuts. I couldn’t find anything like it, but then I chanced upon ISLA by Simoy ng Haraya at a home goods fair.” Check out www.simoyngharaya.com.
Favorite Home Accessory “My bunny stash box that was carved by Timber Design Studio. The handiwork is just so beautiful, and it perfectly fits into my studio.” See @ timberdesignlab on Instagram.
Favorite Travel Destination “None in particular. Anywhere new that’s worth exploring, wherever I can be curious, inspired, or surrounded by nature.” Nikki considers La Union as her current home.
Favorite Object on the Night Table
“Warm lighting paired with a good book. I love snuggling into bed with a good book to put me to sleep. It’s always nice to end the day with interesting thoughts and reflections.”
Favorite Color Combination “Warm, dusty metallics like Rose Gold and Copper paired with whitewashed wood. White walls help me de-clutter my thoughts before painting, while warm metallics add a touch of sophistication to shabby, textured spaces.” Try Tiger Stripe, Koralle, and Almond Chip from Nippon Paint.
Favorite Home Gadget “My pocketed canvas curtains. They were custommade for my studio by Timber. They’ve given my tiny studio so much more space, and the best part about them is I can easily take them wherever I go.” Find Similar at Make Room & More.
Favorite Recycling Trick “Since it’s hard to get hold of nice, thick, craft paper, I find that paper bags from retail stores make for great watercolor paper, collage material, and gift wrappers on occasion.”
Favorite Pick-me-up Treat “Savory starters paired with sweet and cheap red wine. Wine is especially relaxing when I work late nights at the studio.” Find this wine rack at Crate & Barrel, SM Aura.
Favorite Home Design Book “I frequent www. mymodernmet.com. It features a lot of artists and creative pieces that blur the lines between fine art and design. I love how they feature functional pieces that come in whimsical or surreal forms.”
