This month, the Sandbox Collective raises a proverbial middle finger to convention
here’s a new arts festival in town—flower crowns not required (thank God). The Imaginarium is a four-day multi-arts festival of the absurd spearheaded by theater company The Sandbox Collective.
“I think the concept is very exciting. Among the younger set of creatives, we’re now more open to collaborating with individuals outside of our genre and our comfort,” says The Sandbox Collective managing artistic director Toff De Venecia. “You have music festivals relying heavily on the visual arts scene, music relying on dance, and other genres building bridges and working together as opposed to working against each other. I told our team of curators per genre that, as someone who hails from the theater scene, I’m very much indebted to them for all the ideas they’re bringing to the table. Imagine the kind of conversations these collaborations allow, how we are all able to enrich one another with our ideas and energies.”
