Buck Richnold Sia

Sun Star Cebu Yearbook - - PEOPLE - ARCHITECT ZUBU DESIGN ASSOCIATES

Buck Richnold Sia is a visionary inspired by the past. “I am proud of my roots. That’s why I named my design firm Zubu Design Associates, the former name of our beloved city. As architects, we do not only draw, but we create new ideas to challenge the old typology.”

His work is a composition of form and function, borne out of the realization that architecture truly affects society. “It’s not just the art of designing a building. It affects an intellectual approach from conceptual to the documentation and methodologies right until the implementation and contribution as a physical experience that will almost always be a permanent part of the built environment.”

Galvanized by the family motto “striving for innovation”, he stays true to the modern and progressive teaching of his mentor, Alex Medalla, up to this day in his own practice, always evolving, always striving to create a difference from conventions.

Sia is setting out to reinvent and cause change. He is an optimist.

“I hope to have international exposure, bearing the namesake of our city. Most importantly, I envision that architecture, especially in Cebu, shall have more research involved rather just sheer commercialism.

I would love to do something that matters in society; a cultural facility, a museum, even economy housing that really adds value to the quality of life in the city.”
