A house is a home

“Home is where the heart is,” they say. True, it is because home is where people live and feel a sense of belongingness.

Filipinos can attest to that. Pinoys value home and family over anything in this world. We are well- known for our close family ties, which are not generally observed or practiced by other cultures.

This year, the Sun. Star Cebu Yearbook Video Contest centered on those values. With the theme “Is Your House A Home?”, participants should be able to tell the world why their house is a home.

The video entry of John Lindsey Banaynal entitled “A House is a Home” captured scenes of his neighbors in Mambaling, Cebu City showing the essential elements of what makes a house – no matter the dimensions or structure – a home, and won for him this year’s gold award and the $ 500 cash prize that comes with it.

The winning entry centered on the concept that a house is not a home if there’s no one living in it.

The three- minute video shows that a house is a home where people can be themselves and have privacy. It is where you can enjoy doing your favorite pastime and have a special bonding with your family and loved ones.

Banaynal, who works as a multimedia/ graphic artist, joined Sun. Star’s video contest only for the first time this year.
