Typhoon Odette intensifies
TROPICAL Storm "Odette" has slightly intensified as it continues to traverse Northern Cagayan.
Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 2 was still raised over the Province of Apayao, while the Provinces of Abra, Benguet, Kalinga, Mountain Province and Ifugao in the Cordillera are under TCWS No. 1.
The typhoon affected 42 families representing 124 individuals in municipalities in Apayao, while a total of 2 Evacuation Centers were opened to take in those seeking shelter.
Two totally damaged houses were reported in Sta. Marcela, Apayao.
Due to the effects of the typhoon classes were suspended in
pre-school in the Provinces of Benguet, Kalinga, Ifugao and Mt. Province.
Except for Conner, Apayao who declared a suspension of classes in all levels, other municipalities suspended classes from pre-school to high school.
Abra province have also suspended classes from pre-school to high school, while four municipalities have experienced power interruptions.
The Apayao PDRRMC is closely monitoring the municipalities of Flora and Luna for possible flooding.
The Regional Public Works Department reported the Abra - Kalinga Rd (Gacab, Malibcong Sect)
Conner - Kabugao Rd (Badduat and Luttuacan Sect), Calanasan Apayao - Ilocos Norte Rd (Sadel Sect), Banaue - Hungduan Benguet Bdry Rd (Tulludan, Tinoc) and the Junction Talubin - Batlig - Natonin - Paracelis Rd (Balabag Sect, Barlig) to closed to traffic due to minor slides.
Meanwhile, the Protected Area Superintendent of Upper Agno River Basin Reserve (UARBR) issued Safety Advisory to all trekkers and transport service providers to cancel trips and trekking activities to the mountains of the Cordilleras. By Jonathan Llanes
