FRUSTRATED with the leadership of the Kilusang Larangang Gerilya group and in fear for his life, a member of the New People's Army decided to surrender to government forces at Poblacion Gangal, Sallapadan in Abra.

Lowel Carmelo Maglia, 22 years old, single, member of the KLG North Abra and a resident of Brgy. Ududiao, Sallapadan, Abra voluntarily surrendered without firearms to Mayor Nenita Mustard Cardenas of Sallapadan in the presence of joint elements of PROCOR and 73rd DRC at Sadag Patrol base, Sitio Sadag, Brgy Maguyepyep, Salladpan, Abra.

Maglia said "Their group operates in the province of Abra and may be responsible in the series of attacks and harassments which happened in Abra and nearby provinces".

Experiencing hardship within the organization, Maglia finally decided to surrender to the government and avail of the opportunities offered by government to former NPA rebels.

The surrender of NPA members over the past months is a result of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines campaign to rid society or rebel groups, aside from convincing members to return to folds of the law.
