In­ven­tors urged to patent works, push for com­mer­cial­iza­tion

THE DE­PART­MENT of Science and Tech­nol­ogy urged in­ven­tors, in­no­va­tors and re­searchers to patent their re­searches or in­ven­tions and pur­sue their com­mer­cial­iza­tion.

DOST - Tech­nol­ogy Ap­pli­ca­tion and Pro­mo­tion In­sti­tute Di­rec­tor Edgar Gar­cia stressed the gov­ern­ment be­lieves that S&T and in­no­va­tions are a key driver of devel­op­ment .They con­trib­ute to the com­pet­i­tive­ness in­dex of the coun­try es­pe­cially if these are reg­is­tered or patented by the In­tel­lec­tual Prop­erty Of­fice of the Philip­pines (IPOPhil).

Gar­cia said the DOST- TAPI is pro­vid­ing tech­ni­cal and fi­nan­cial as­sis­tance in get­ting the IP work of in­ven­tors patented or reg­is­tered at IPOPHil. He added RICE is be­ing con­ducted in the dif­fer­ent re­gions to high­light the role of Filipino in­ven­tors and in­crease aware­ness on the value of S&T and in­no­va­tion on so­cio – eco­nomic growth of ev­ery Filipino fam­ily and com­mu­nity es­pe­cially in the coun­try­side.

The RICE for the Cordillera Ad­min­is­tra­tive Re­gion held this week drew 51 con­tes­tants regionwide - 13 for the Util­ity Model Re- search cat­e­gory, 6 for the Creative Re­search and 19 for the Out­stand­ing Stu­dent Creative Re­search (SIBOL) High School cat­e­gory and 13 for SIBOL Col­lege cat­e­gory.

The win­ning IP en­tries in each of the RICE cat­e­gories will rep­re­sent the re­gion in the Na­tional In­ven­tion Con­test and Ex­hibits set next year.
