- Roderick Osis

AS FOOTBALL continues its rapid popularity in the region, the Cordillera Binnadang Football Club (CBFC) is currently undertaking clinics outside Baguio.

In partnership with Bontoc Football Club, CBFC started its month long clinic in Bontoc, Mountain Province to share their knowledge and impart the lessons of the most beautiful game.

“In partnership with other football clubs, young people can be given a chance of making it in life through sports,” said coach Aries Bocalan.

Bocalan added other provinces in the Cordillera will also be visited by CBFC.

“We started in Kalinga earlier this year and our next clinic will be in Ifugao. Our clinics will be held every Saturday’s and

Sundays of every month,” added Bocalan.

The clinic will use the FIFA grassroots football program as the instructional approach.

Under the FIFA approach, grassroots football should present the two basic concepts of football: cooperation and opposition and explains grassroots football is an excellent means of physical, motor, psychomotor, mental and social training.

Meanwhile Baguio Benguet footballers collected two trophies in the recently concluded 6th Pangasinan United 7x7 Football Cup backed by Pinay in Action (PIA) Football of former Senator Pia Cayetano.

Baguio - Benguet Ates took home the first runner-up in the women’s open while CBFC A salvaged third place in the girls 16 Under category.

Louisa Cabanilla of the Baguio Benguet Ates and Taif Salima of the CBFC bagged the best defender award in their respective age group.

The tournament is one of Cayetano’s advocacy believing that sports could be an avenue to encourage and empower women.

PIA, launched in 2006, continued to grow as it featured other sports and fitness events like all-women’s triathlon and running camps.
