Army pur­sues NPA rebel’s in Ifu­gao

ARMY per­son­nel are now in pur­suit of New Peo­ples Army rebels who en­gaged mem­bers of the 54th In­fantry Batal­lion of the Philip­pine Army in a 15 minute gun bat­tle in Barangay Bin­ablyan, Tinoc-Ifu­gao.

Lieu­tenant Colonel Nar­ciso Nab­ul­nag Jr., 54th IB com­mand­ing of­fi­cer said the army re­sponded to a re­port of the pres­ence of the rebel groups in the area where they were en­gaged in the fire fight.

Ten mem­bers of the Spe­cial Par­ti­san Unit of the New Peo­ples Army ini­tially fired at the re­spond­ing army per­son­nel un­til they es­caped us­ing a pickup.

No ca­su­al­ties were re­ported on the side of the army while gov­ern­ment troops are still con­firm­ing the iden­ti­ties of pos­si­ble ca­su­al­ties on the side of the rebel group.

Re­cov­ered from the en­counter site were two ri­fles con­sist­ing of a 30 cal­iber Gar­ran and car­bine with nine car­tridges, 30 cal­iber ball and a mo­tor­cy­cle used by the rebels in their oper­a­tions in Ifu­gao and neigh­bor­ing prov­ince.
