Indahag, City Central win titular games
2ND INTER-PUBLIC SCHOOL CAGING
INDAHAG National High School and City Central School disposed of separate foes to rule the secondary girls and elementary boys’ rivalries in the 2nd Cagayan de Oro Inter-Public School Basketball Tournament on Saturday at West City Central School covered courts here.
This, as the vaunted Indahag NHS lady Skyhawks of coach Noel Miel denied Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School a chance to score in their lifetime finals encounter via a thrilling 46-43 escape for the secondary girls crown.
The lady Skyhawks and MOGCHS BBG lady Cavaliers of coach Agustin Yañez fought toe-to-toe in the entire match that even saw the Cavaliers up by six, 41-35.
But Judeca Pacupat and Shile Godez both delivered for the Skyhawks in the final stretch to humble anew the revenge-seeking Cavaliers.
Pacupat completed a 3-point play and Godez sank back-to-back treys to spark a 9-0 run, giving Indahag a 3-point lead, 44-41.
Still, MOGCHS came close to within one, 43-44 and twice had chances to snatch the win with less than a minute left, but they faltered including an attempt by Honey Grace Janubas with 17 seconds remaining.
This was the fifth finals encounter between Indahag and MOGCHS since starting their rivalry in the now extinct Oro SPEED Inter-Public School.
Meanwhile, the City Central Stingers of coach Jaypee Jumamoy celebrated a successful comeback this season after defeating Pagatpat Elementary School of coach Gerry Pastrano, 46-34, in the elementary final.
Pagatpat ES were dictating the first half with a slim 4-point lead, but the Stingers were getting stronger in the final half to turn things around.
“Gikapoy ang mga players sa Pagatpat mao nga naoutplayed sila sa final half,” said tournament executive director Danny Jaminal.
