Oro police seek add’l budget for fuel
A top official of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) on Monday, October 8, said the police’s budget for fuel and anti-illegal drug operations is running short even as they requested for additional allocation from the city government.
City police director Senior Superintendent Nelson Aganon appeared during the city council’s regular session and asked the local lawmakers to approve their request of some P1.3 million supplemental budget which
was submitted last July. Aganon also presented before the city’s legislative body the Cocpo’s accomplishments and continuous efforts in reducing crime volume in the city.
He said the budget allocation from the city government has run short for the third quarter of this year due to the increasing number of anti-illegal drug operations and checkpoint operations, among others.
“Lumalaki kasi ang ating operation (Our operations are growing). Previously nasa (we have) 7,000 checkpoint operations lang tayo karon doble nasa (and now it is more than doubled to) 16,000 plus,”Aganon said.
“Ang nangyari na-short tayo sa 3rd quarter kaya tayo nag request ng supplemental budget para matawid natin ang end of the year (What happened was we are short for the 3rd quarter that is why we are asking the city government for additional budget so we can make it until the end of this year),”he added.
The city’s top cop said various police operations are expected to increase in the coming days because of yuletide season and activities for midterm elections.
Aganon said the city police is tightening its belt as the need for fuel allocation and anti-illegal drug operation is increasing.
“Kulang talaga budget for anti-drug operation kaya medyo tinitipid natin ang budget para maka-comply tayo sa required operation with the support of the city government,”Aganon said.
On the other hand, the city council’s committee on appropriations has vowed to prioritize the police’s request.
