Special voters’ listing in Marawi completed
MARAWI CITY— The special voters’ registration in Marawi City and Lanao del Sur province was successfully concluded despite the scheduled hearings of the Election Registration Board (ERB) yesterday, Oct. 9, for the approval or disapproval of voters’ applications.
Lawyer Joyce E. Moran, Commission on Election’s regional lawyer for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and acting election officer of Bayang, Lanao del Sur, said the ERB hearings yesterday was simultaneously conducted nationwide pursuant to Section 2 of Comelec Resolution 10392 where thousands of voter applicants faced possible disqualification.
Moran said, this may not be a common situation in some, if not most, part of the country, but this played a significant turnout of results of the coming May 2019 mid-term election in the 39 municipalities and one city in Lanao del Sur. In the municipality
of Bayang, Moran said the ERB where she chaired, settled more than 800 voter applicants for possible disqualification.
Bayang Municipal Mayor Aslani P. Balt said he is confident that the ERB will give fair judgement to the people in his municipality which has the most number of barangays in Lanao del Sur.
Lawyer Allan C. Kadon, Lanao del Sur Provincial Election Supervisor, also managed to hear other voter applicants facing disqualification in other municipalities, held in Marawi City.
The Commission on Elections set the special registration of voters in Marawi City and Lanao del Sur from October 1, 2018 to October 15, 2018.
The system of continuing registration, which resumed on July 2, 2018 and concluded on Sept. 29, 2018, was conducted nationwide with the exception of Marawi City due to the prevailing conditions in the area. (ACM)
