Man killed in Man­daue ‘freak ac­ci­dent’

A mo­tor­cy­cle driver died af­ter a lamp­post fell on him when it was hit was by a con­tainer van that made a turn to U.N. Ave. from D. M. Cortes Street in Man­daue City yes­ter­day af­ter­noon.

It took three hours be­fore the con­tainer truck was re­moved us­ing the crane truck of the City’s Depart­ment of Gen­eral Ser­vices.

Glenn An­tigua, chief for op­er­a­tions of the Traf­fic En­force­ment Agency of Man­daue, said the ac­ci­dent re­sulted in heavy traf­fic, caus­ing some pas­sen­gers to miss their flights.


An­tigua said that Joser Po­tayre, the truck driver, may have lost con­trol of his ve­hi­cle be­cause he was run­ning at high speed when he made the turn at 3:50 p.m.

Po­tayre was on his way to the Mac­tan Ex­port Pro­cess­ing Zone.

The con­tainer sep­a­rated from the van, and hit the lamp­post on the cen­ter is­land and an­other con­tainer van in the op­po­site lane.

The lamp­post fell and hit Robert Bor­lasa, a res­i­dent of Si­tio Kalu­bian in Barangay Yati, Liloan, who was wait­ing for traf­fic sig­nal to turn green.

Bor­lasa was rushed to the Man­dae City District Hos­pi­tal, where he died.

Po­tayre was brought to the Man­daue City Po­lice Of­fice-Traf­fic Man­age­ment Unit and was de­tained pend­ing the fil­ing of charges against him.
