MMIS to strengthen sports pro­gram

The Maria Montes­sori In­ter­na­tional School (MMIS) Bur­gundy Hawks aims to strengthen its sport­ing pro­gram as they join var­i­ous sport­ing events for this year.

Michael Vil­lamor, the school’s chief fi­nan­cial of­fi­cer, said that its first goal right now is the Pri­vate Schools De­vel­op­ment League (PSDL).

The Bur­gundy Hawks is join- ing in the bas­ket­ball com­pe­ti­tion of PSDL, which started this month and will run un­til Novem­ber. The bas­ket­ball tour­na­ment has the 18-un­der, 16-un­der, 14-un­der, 12-un­der and 10-un­der brack­ets.

“We’re tak­ing this one step at a time,” Vil­lamor said.

Aside from bas­ket­ball, the school has a team in swim­ming, ten­nis, karatedo, ar­nis and foot- ball.

MMIS ath­letic di­rec­tor and ar­nis coach Joy Ron­dez said that they will start to do tryouts for ar­nis.

Swim­ming coach Harold Ale­vi­ado said that they’re now pre­par­ing for the District Meet, then Cebu City Olympics and hop­ing to qual­ify to the Cen­tral Visayas Re­gion Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion (Cvi­raa).
