Cabrera to give up post at CCENRO

Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CCENRO) Chief Ma. Nida Cabrera is set to vacate her position once she gets the approval of Mayor Tomas Osmeña.

In a phone interview, Cabrera clarified that there is nothing personal with her decision, adding that she just wants to focus on working in the private sector.

“There is really no problem, I just want to rest,” she told reporters.

Cabrera said her resignation letter was already submitted to Osmeña but they were not able to talk since the mayor is still in Manila.

But Atty. Marie Velle Abella, Human Resource Development Office (HRDO) chief, said that they have yet to receive Cabrera’s resignation.

“I did not receive a resignation from Nida Cabrera. Usually the process is (that) all resignation letters are endorsed to HRDO for the preparation of the approval of resignation,” Abella said.

She said the mayor has the option to disapprove Cabrera’s resignation. But even if he does, Cabrera said that she wants to quit government service.

“I would have wanted to resign in January or February yet... (but) there are still unfinished projects. I really want to resign already. If I need to extend, maybe just for two to three months,” she said.

Cabrera said there are still few tasks that she has to finish before leaving office, including a trip to Japan to discuss a possible program partnership in promoting environment programs.

Before her appointed as chief of CCENRO, Cabrera, an ally of the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan, served as a city councilor and handled the committee on environment.

When sought for comment, Councilor Margarita Osmeña said they respect Cabrera’s decision, adding that the latter will always be welcome in the BOPK family. /
