Tal­isay sees drop in rob­bery, theft cases

The Tal­isay City Po­lice Sta­tion re­ported a de­crease in theft and rob­bery cases from Jan­uary to Septem­ber this year com­pared to last year. Supt. Ja­son Vil­la­mater, Tal­isay po­lice chief, made the state­ment fol­low­ing re­ports that his per­son­nel may be sub­jected to re­train­ing if they can’t re­duce crim­i­nal in­ci­dence in the city within two weeks.

Vil­la­mater told re­porters yes­ter­day that as of Septem­ber this year, they recorded 110 theft cases and 70 rob­bery cases.

These are lesser com­pared to the 213 theft cases and 108 rob­bery cases recorded in the same pe­riod last year.

Vil­la­mater, how­ever, said that the 36 mur­der cases recorded from Jan­uary to Septem­ber this year al­most sur­passed the num­ber of cases re­ported in 2016.

There were 37 mur­der inci- dents re­ported from Jan­uary to De­cem­ber last year.

As for homi­cide in­ci­dents, the sta­tion recorded seven cases from Jan­uary to Septem­ber this year, which is higher com­pared to the one case re­ported last year.

Over­all, Vil­la­mater said that the in­dex crimes re­ported this year reached 328, which is lesser com­pared to last year’s 589.

De­spite this, he said they will not be com­pla­cent.

Vil­la­mater said he plans to im­ple­ment poli­cies to im­prove the city’s peace and or­der sit­u­a­tion.

With the dis­so­lu­tion of their Drug En­force­ment Unit, Vil­la­mater said he has re­as­signed six of­fi­cers to the newly-cre­ated Mo­tor­cy­cle Anti-Street Crime Op­er­a­tives (MASCO).

The team, who will also do reg­u­lar beat pa­trol, will aug­ment po­lice vis­i­bil­ity in the city, Vil­la­mater said. /
