7 injured after truck rams house in Balamban

- KAL

A 10-wheeler dump truck crashed into a house along the Transcentral Highway in Cansomoroy, Balamban, at 10 a.m. last Tuesday, injuring seven persons.

An investigation showed that the vehicle, driven by Socrates Manabat Alcos, lost its brakes while going downhill. It was raining as tropical depression Basyang was battering Cebu at the time.

Alcos, 49, told the police he failed to control the truck. The injured were Gemma Paran Ardillo, 58, owner of the house; her children Devina P. Pardillo, 27; Jocelyn Ardillo Pamat, 24; Jocelyn’s son Jaylord A. Pamat, 2; and Devina’s son Reymond Ardillo, 7.

Alcos and his helper Eduardo S. Mercado suffered minor injuries.

They were brought to the Balamban District Hospital but were transferred to a hospital in Cebu City for further treatment of their injuries.

Alcos, however, was detained. He will possibly face reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries before the provincial prosecutor’s office if he cannot reach an agreement with the family. /
