Tormis, Yu win Cetba Weekly title

Gretchen Tormis and Joseph Yu leaned on a strong final game to seize the women’s and men’s top honors in the Cebu Tenpin Bowling Association (Cetba) Friday Weekly Group Tournament at the SM City Cebu Bowling Center.

Cetba president Tormis, a 36-handicapper, scored 780 in the four-game series and outlasted Rose Camero by five points for the women’s title. Senior bowler Sonia Gakenholz finished with 768 for third place.

Tormis pulled away in the fourth game, knocking down 171 pinfalls after scoring 158, 155 and 152 in the first three games.

Senior bowler Baby Bacon and Cristilyn Tan scored 759 and 750, respectively, to round up the women’s top five.

The 25-handicapper Joseph Yu, meanwhile, won the men’s division after scoring 891. Renato Reyes finished second with 872 and Bonnie Tanchuangko settled third with 859.

Yu scored his day’s best 223 in the final game after knocking down 203, 170 and 195 pinfalls in the first three games.

Ronan Barredo placed fourth with 847 and senior bowler Marvin Sevilla was fifth with 825.
