3 KILLED, 5 HURT IN ROAD MISHAP

On their way back to Cebu City af­ter a break in Os­lob, a man, his wife, and their grand­son died in an ac­ci­dent that in­volved four ve­hi­cles in Barangay Taloot, Ar­gao town. Four other grand­chil­dren sur­vived.

A trailer truck hit the Sel­lote fam­ily’s mini­van and sent it spin­ning to­ward an­other car be­hind them. The truck then hit an SUV, be­fore crash­ing into some man­groves. Its driver is now in po­lice cus­tody.

A man, his wife and his grand­son were killed while five oth­ers were in­jured in a four-ve­hi­cle smashup in Si­tio Hi­mong­bon­gan, Barangay Taloot in Ar­gao, South­ern Cebu yes­ter­day morn­ing.

Jose Aquillo Sel­lote, 62; his wife, Vir­gilia, 61; and his grand­son Vince Brylle Vil­laces, 4, didn’t sur­vive their in­juries and died in the Dr. Isidro Kin­ta­nar Memo­rial Hos­pi­tal in Ar­gao af­ter the ac­ci­dent.

Sel­lote and his com­pan­ions were on board a mul­ti­van and were pro­ceed­ing to­ward Cebu City af­ter a va­ca­tion in Os­lob when, upon pass­ing by Barangay Taloot, they en­coun­tered a trailer truck driven by Leonel Ju­dith, who works for a truck­ing ser­vice firm in Man­daue City.

PO1 Jayson Loben­d­ina of the Ar­gao Po­lice Sta­tion said that Ju­dith was trav­el­ing to­ward Barangay Bin­lod in the same town to de­liver poul­try feeds when Sel­lote’s car sud­denly made a left turn to­ward his lane.

While Sel­lote was mak­ing a left turn, his ve­hi­cle struck the left side of Ju­dith’s truck.

The col­li­sion sent Sel­lote’s ve­hi­cle bounc­ing back to the south­bound lane, hit­ting a gray car driven by Julius Cae­sar Oli­var, 29, who was tail­ing them.

Af­ter his truck was hit by Sel­lote’s ve­hi­cle, Ju­dith lost con­trol of the ve­hi­cle and hit an SUV driven by Sulpi­cio Obod be­fore crash­ing into a man­grove plan­ta­tion on the side of the road.

Res­i­dents in the area im­me­di­ately called emer­gency re­spon­ders.

While the cou­ple and Vil­laces didn’t sur­vive the crash, their other four grand­chil­dren sur­vived but re­mained un­der med­i­cal ob­ser­va­tion due to their in­juries.

Loben­d­ina said Oli­var and Obod also sur­vived the ac­ci­dent.

Ju­dith is cur­rently de­tained at the Ar­gao Po­lice Sta­tion. /
